Quakers compete at All-Ohio

February 9, 2013

WESTERVILLE, OH – Senior Mason Metts recorded season-best and personal-best marks Saturday as the Wilmington College indoor track and field team competed in the All-Ohio Championships.

On his second launch, Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) recorded a put of 16.15 meters, good enough for a third-place finish in the shot put. He added a personal record in the weight throw with a toss of 17.06 meters. He finished fourth in the event.

As a team, the men finished 12th of 18 teams with 27.5 points, while the women were 17th with 7.5 points.
“We are in that midseason stretch,” said head coach Ron Combs. “We have two weeks until the conference meet, and we kinda challenged them to be ready.”

Combs added that Jake Simpkins’ (Germantown, OH/Valley View) had a good 800-meter run in the distance medley relay that would “usually go unnoticed”.

On the women’s side, freshman Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) and senior Liz Delehanty (Euclid, OH/Villa Angela St. Joseph’s) scored for the Lady Quakers. Bolen was fifth in the shot put with a launch of 12.1 meters, while Delehanty finished fifth in the pole vault with a distance of 3.05 meters.

The teams will compete in the Rick Meindl Invitational at Capital University on February 16.
