CANTON – The coaches and media had different views of the Wilmington College football team during the OAC Football Media Day today (Aug. 6) at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In the coaches poll, the Quakers finished in ninth place with 16 points, while the media picked WC to finish last 60 points. Marietta, who finished 0-10 a season ago, registered 61 points to finish slightly ahead of the Quakers.

“I really don’t put a lot of stock in polls,” said Wilmington head coach Stacey Hairston. “For the most part, they are based off of last year’s results. Wilmington was picked to finish ninth and tenth for the upcoming season, and based off of last year, that’s where we should have been picked. Where they pick you really doesn’t matter, that’s why we play the games. I have a good feeling that this season’s results will look different than the predictions.”

Wilmington reports to campus for fall practice on Wednesday, August 14. The team will have photo day and its intrasquad scrimmage on August 24.

Hairston and the Quakers officially kick off the 2013 season 1:30 p.m. September 7 at Williams Stadium against Olivet.
