Men split
pair of games at Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS,
Nevada (December 30, 2002) The Wilmington College Quakers split
a pair of games at the Desert Shootout hosted by the University
of Nevada in Las Vegas.
The Quakers
dropped the opening game of the tournament against Buffalo State
University before dropping Coe College (IA) in the second.
In the opening
game the Quakers found themselves down by five at halftime before
rallying back to take a two-point lead before the Bengals hit a
fade-away three-point basket at the buzzer to win the game 64-63.
The Quakers
were led by Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton-Union) who scored 14
points while Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott) scored 13 and David Guy
(Webb City, MO/Webb City) chipped in with 12. Will Bruce pulled
down a career-high 11 rebounds in the loss while Liggens helped
out with nine boards of his own.
In the second
game of the tournament, the Quakers jumped out to a 48-35 halftime
advantage, in large part to 18-of-25 shooting (72 percent) from
the field, as the team held on for the five point, 82-77 victory.
The Quakers
put five players in double-figures in the victory, led by Guyıs
18 points. Bruce scored 14 points in the game while Liggens put
up 13, Josh Rohrbacher (Columbus/Beechcroft) 12 and Adam Weber (Peebles/Peebles)
chipped in with 11. Liggens pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds
while Dave Hudson (Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) dished out a game-high
five assists.
The next game
for the Quakers (2-8, 1-3 OAC) is on Thursday, January 2, when the
team travels to Northern Ohio to face off against the Oberlin Yeomen
with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
