Poor shooting
downs Quakers against John Carroll
University
Heights, OH (December 21, 2002) The Quakers of Wilmington College
shot just 9-for-32 (28.1 %) from the field in the second half, as
the team was outscored 40-23 by John Carroll during that span en
route to a 78-49 loss to their conference foe.
John Carroll
(6-2, 3-1 OAC) scored first in the game before the Quakers (1-7,
1-3 OAC) rallied back, scoring the next eight points in the contest,
opening up a six point lead five minutes into the contest. The visitors'
lead would grow to as many as seven in the period. The Quakers led
for the final time with 9:12 left in the first half, when the Green
and White owned a three-point lead. JCU then went on a 12-0 run
to open up a nine-point advantage just three minutes later. The
Blue Streak lead grew to as many as 12 in the period, when the hosts
went into the locker room with a 38-26 advantage.
The 12-point
deficit would be as close as the Quakers would come the rest of
the way as John Carroll opened a 20-point lead two and a half minutes
into the period, and cruised the rest of the way for the 29-point
victory.
The Quakers
were led by Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott) who scored 10 points and
pulled down five rebounds. Will Bruce (Cleveland/Benedictine) scored
eight points as Josh Rohrbacher (Columbus/Beechcroft) and Deon Short
(Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy) each pitched in with six. Rohrbacher pulled
down a team-high seven rebounds for the Quakers while grabbing four
steals.
John Carroll
was paced by Jason Pecjak who scored 20 points. Daniel Budzer chipped
in with10 as he and Pecjak were the only Blue Streaks in double
figure scoring.
The next game
for the Quakers is on Thursday, December 26, when the team travels
to Las Vegas, Nevada to play in the Las Vegas Tournament where they
will face Coe (IA), Scranton (PA) and the University of Buffalo
(NY).
