Quakers loseto
Division II Findlay
Findlay, OH
(December 18, 2002) The Wilmington College Quakers were defeated
by Division II University of Findlay 78-52. The Quakers trailed
by just five at the half, and by three with 15 minutes to play,
but a strong run by the Oilers sent the Quakers away with their
sixth loss of the season.
The Quakers
(1-7, 1-2 OAC) scored first in the game when Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton-Union)
put in a rebound basket, giving the visitors the 2-0 lead. After
four straight points by Findlay (7-1), Gee hit a three-point basket,
giving the Green and White their last lead of the game. A 9-0 run
over the next 4:30 helped the Oilers put in some distance from the
Quakers. The first half lead would grow to as many as 11 with 3:11
to play in the half, but a 6-0 run to end the first period got the
Green and White to within five at the intermission.
The Quakers
cut the deficit to three with 15:28 to play in the game, but a 16-2
run over the next seven and a half minutes put the Quakers out of
reach, as the Oilers cruised to a 78-52 victory.
The Quakers
were led by Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott), who scored 10 points and
pulled down nine rebounds. Gee, Deon Short (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy)
and Will Bruce (Cleveland/Benedictine) each scored eight for the
Green and White in the loss.
Findlay was
led by center Brad Rethman who scored 18 points. Frank Phillips
put up 12 points while Charles Warren and Andrew Staley each chipped
in with 10.
The next game
for the Green and White is set for Saturday, December 21 as the
team travels to University Heights, Ohio to face off in a conference
battle against John Carroll University with tip-off set for 3:00
p.m.
