Quakers lose
heartbreaker to B-W
Wilmington,
OH (December 14, 2002) The Wilmington College Quakers dropped
a conference battle with Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday by a 73-71
score. Robert Myrick (Maysville, KY/Mason County) hit a running
jump shot with 18 seconds left to tie the score, but was outdone
by B-W's Shawn McCormick who hit an 18-foot jump shot with 2.4 seconds
left to give the visitors from Berea the two-point victory.
B-W (4-2, 1-1
OAC) and the Quakers traded baskets for the first five minutes of
the game before the Green and White went on a 20-4 run to take a
16-point lead with 7:19 left in the first half. The Quakers (1-5,
1-2 OAC), who had been shooting at a torrid pace suddenly went cold,
and missed their final eight shots and turned the ball over four
times to end the half. B-W used the Quakers' drought to their advantage,
fighting back and eventually tying the game at halftime, 34-34,
ending the period on a 16-0 run.
The Quakers
scored first in the second half when Josh Rohrbacher (Columbus/Beechcroft)
hit a three-point basket, giving the hosts a three-point advantage.
B-W then scored the game's next nine points to take a four-point
lead. The Yellow Jackets lead would grow to as many as eight in
the half. The Quakers fought back and eventually tied the game at
71 on Myrick's jumper, but McCormick was the hero, hitting a jumper
with 2.4 seconds left in the game to pull out the victory for the
visitors from Berea.
The Quakers
were led by Rohrbacher who hit for 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting
in the game. Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott) and Dave Hudson (Bucyrus/Col.Crawford)
each scored 12 while Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton-Union) chipped
with 10. Liggens pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds while
David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) dished out five assists.
Jon Carroll
scored a game-high 24 points for B-W while McCormick scored 20 and
Thad Davis 19. McCormick pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double
as Tom Harrington dished out four assists to lead the squad.
The next game
for the Quakers is set for Wednesday, December 18 when the team
travels to Findlay, OH, to face off against the Oilers with tip-off
set for 7:30 p.m.
