Quakers drop fourth straight

 

Tiffin, OH (December 7, 2002) -- The Quakers of Wilmington College dropped their fourth straight game at the hands of the Heidelberg College Student Princes by a 70-58 score.

Will Bruce (Cleveland/Benedictine) scored a career-high 18 points while Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott) scored 11 and Dave Hudson (Bucyrus/Col. Crawford) put up 10.

The Quakers (0-4, 0-1 OAC) never led in the contest as Heidelberg opened up scoring in the game with a three-point basket 1:45 into the contest. The Quakers cut the deficit to one with a Greg Liggens jump shot before Heidelberg (4-3, 1-1 OAC) scored 12 of the gamešs next 14 points to take an 11-point lead. The Quakers would bring the game to within four with eight minutes left in the half before the 'Berg opened a 15 point lead that they took into the locker room.

The Quakers opened the second half with a bang when Josh Rohrbacher (Columbus/Beechcroft) converted a four-point play just 15 seconds into the half, cutting the deficit to eight points. The Heidelberg lead would shrink to as few as one with 5:10 left in the game before the hosts outscored the Quakers 16-5 the rest of the way, including 8-2 in the gamešs final two minutes.

Bruce led the team with 18 points while Liggens and Hudson scored 11 and 10 respectively. Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton-Union) chipped in with nine points in the loss. Bruce pulled down a team-high five rebounds while Liggens added four. Adam Weber (Peelbes/Peebles) dished out five assists.

The Student Princes were led by Lucas Messer who scored 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Nick Flipic scored 15 and Kyle Tackett and Lorenzo Smith scored 12 and 11 respectively. Adam Bargar dished out a game-high eight assists in the victory.

The next game for the Quakers is on Wednesday, December 11 when the team hosts head coach Scott Stemplešs alma mater Ohio Northern with tip-off set for 7:30.
