Quakers drop
third straight
Richmond,
IN (December 4, 2002) -- The Quakers of Wilmington College dropped
their third straight after a 73-62 defeat by Earlham College in
the annual Quaker Bowl.
Even scoring
paced the Green and White in the game as two players scored 12 while
another pair had 10 and eight respectively.
Earlham (3-3)
jumped out to a quick four point lead 3:30 into the contest and
led by as many as five points in the first half with 9:07 left in
the period, before WC (0-3) went on a 10-0 run to take a five point
lead two minutes later. Earlham would fight back to take a two point
lead with 2:23 left in the half before Wilmington went on a quick
7-0 spurt to re-capture the lead, one that the would keep until
the break.
The Green and
White's lead would grow to as many as six when Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott)
converted on a three-point play 17 seconds into the period, while
WC held onto the lead until the 12:54 mark of the contest. The Ohio
Quakers were within a point of the lead with 2:18 left in the game,
but a 10-0 finish by Earlham would give the hosts the 11-point victory.
Liggens and
David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) led the team with 12 points
while Will Bruce (Cleveland/Benedictine) scored 10 and Stephen Gee
(West Milton/Milton-Union) put up eight. Liggens had a team-high
six rebounds while Guy grabbed a game-high four steals.
Earlham was
led by Markous Jewett who scored 20 points while Brady Keaton had
17 and Sean O'Reiley and Brandon Miller scored 15 and 12 respectively.
The next game
for the Green and White is set for Saturday, December 7, when the
team travels to Tiffin, Ohio to face off in the conference opener
against Heidelberg College with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
