(WC Press Release)
Wilmington, OH (November 29, 2003) -- The Wilmington College Quakers
were unable to overcome a 19-point halftime deficit, as their second
half comeback fell short in a 12-point, 74-62 loss to Thomas More
College on Saturday.
The Quakers
took their first and only lead of the game in the first minute when
Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton Union) hit a three-point basket,
giving the hosts a one-point, 3-2 lead. The Quakers kept it a single
digit deficit until the Saints used an 8-0 run to take an 11-point
lead halfway through the period. The lead grew to as many as 19
as the Saints used another 8-0 run to end the half with the 19-point
advantage.
In the second
half, after a Thomas More three point basket, taking the visitor
lead to 22, the Quakers ran off 16 straight points to cut the deficit
to just six with 13:36 to play in the game. The two teams used runs
of their own before the Quakers cut the lead to four with 8:18 to
play in the contest. The four-point advantage was as low as it would
go for the Green and White as the visitors used a 10-2 run to take
the double figure lead back, one they would not relinquish for the
rest of the game.
David Guy (Webb
City, MO/Webb City) led the way for the Quakers with 12 points while
Gee scored 11 and B.J. Gordon (Toledo/Scott) added 10. Gee and Gordon
each pulled down eight rebounds to lead the squad while Guy, Luke
Wolfinbarger (Franklin/Franklin) and Mike King (Wasthington C.H./Little
Miami) each dished out three assists.
Thomas More
was led by Paul Hardy who scored 15 points while Chad Wachs scored
12 and Marcus Johnson and Andrae Woodard each added 11. Wachs pulled
down 11 rebounds for the Saints while Woodard gave out five assists
in the victory.
With the loss
the Quakers fall to 0-3 on the season while Thomas More evens theirs
at 2-2.
The next game
for the Green and White is on Thursday, December 4 when the team
travels to Terre Haute, Indiana to face off against Rose Hulman
with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
