WILMINGTON,
Ohio Wilmington College athletic director Terry Rupert
is proud to name former men's and women's assistant basketball
coach Scott Reule as the 20th head coach in program history.
"Wilmington
has always been a place that I have loved, and a place that
I want to be," said new coach Reule. "I'm excited
to come back to a staff that is hard working and are great
people."
Reule
replaces former head coach Marc Kuntz, who took an assistant
coaching position at UMASS-Lowell, a Division II school.
"We are excited to get such a quality person as head
coach," said Rupert. "Scott is a great guy who has
proven coaching ability and has a given talent for recruiting."
Former assistant coach Mark Berger, who served as interim
coach after Kuntz's departure, has been named associate head
coach for the 2005-06 season.
"We are pleased with the job Mark did in the interim
position," said the athletic director. "We look
forward to what he and Scott can do together in turning around
the men's basketball program."
Reule
started his coaching career as a freshman at Wilmington College
in 1997-98, where he assisted former head coach Scott Stemple
for four years as a student-assistant coach. After graduating
four years later, he took the assistant coach position for
the women's basketball team in 2001-02, helping the squad
to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a
National Championship in 2003-04.
"Scott
has been successful here, both with the men's and women's
team," said Rupert. "He knows basketball, and we
expect a smooth transition this next year."
He resigned from his assistant coaching position at Wilmington
in June to take the recruiting coordinator position for the
Wright State University women's basketball team.
"I
love Wilmington, and part of coming back from Wright State
is being a part of a great school and community," noted
Reule. "Wright State has taught me a lot in just the
last two months that will help me become a better head coach."
Reule,
a 2001 Wilmington College graduate, is originally from Mason
County, Kentucky. He has also been an assistant coach for
the Quaker baseball team and was the head coach of the men's
golf team this spring.
"I
look at coaching as you are coaching people," said the
new head coach. "It doesn't matter if you are a baseball
player, basketball player, a male or a female‹if you find
the way to reach them as a person, you will also be finding
a way to reach them as a student-athlete."
