Quakers end season with 10-point loss

NEW CONCORD (February 24, 2003) ­ The Wilmington College Quakers ended their season with a 73-63 loss at Muskingum College on Monday in the first round of the OAC Tournament.

Wilmington (4-22) scored first in the game with a Deon Short (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy) three point basket 20 seconds into the contest. The two teams then traded baskets for the next seven minutes until Muskingum went on an 8-2 run to open a nine-point lead with 8:04 left in the game. The Quakers then scored the game's next 11 points on a Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott) dunk and three point baskets from Josh Rohrbacher (Columbus/Beechcroft), Short and Rohrbacher again. The lead gew to as many as four for the Quakers when Rohrbacher hit a layup with 40 seconds to play in the period, giving the Quakers a four-point, 35-31 halftime lead.

Muskingum (11-15) was not able to take the lead back until five minutes into the period, when the hosts used an 8-0 run to take a four point lead. The Green and White were only able to get as close as one point the rest of the way, as Muskingum hit seven of eight free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Short scored a team-high 16 points for the Quakers while Liggens scored 12, Rohrbacher 10 and David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) chipped in nine. Rohrbacher recorded his first career double-double with 10 rebounds as Liggens had seven boards leading the Quakers to out-rebound the Muskies 38-22 in the contest. Dave Hudson (Bucyrus/Bucyrus) dished out a game-high seven assists while grabbing a team-leading two steals. Muskingum was led by

Justin Clifford who scored 21 points while Kent Keitch added 18 in the victory.

The loss ends the Quakers season with a 4-22 record.
