Quakers drop contest to 21st ranked Capital 88-60


BEXLEY, Ohio (February 5, 2003) ­ The Wilmington College Quakers trailed by just 11 at halftime against Capital, but were outscored 46-29 in the second half as the team dropped an 88-60 game to 21st ranked Capital University on Wednesday evening.

Wilmington (4-16, 2-11 OAC) started the game on a high note when Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott) slammed home an offensive rebound for the first points of the ballgame. Capital tied the game at six with 16:52 left in the first half before the hosts went on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to take a lead that they would not give up. The Quakers cut the deficit to six twice in the half, as the team went into the locker room trailing by 11 at 42-31.

Capital (16-4, 11-2 OAC) went on an 11-0 run after a Liggens jumper to take a 20-point lead with four minutes gone in the period. The closest the Green and White would come the rest of the way was 13, as the team was defeated by 28 at 88-60.

Deon Short (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy) led the way in the scoring column for the Quakers as he put up 11 points. Liggens scored 10 while David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) scored nine and Adam Weber (Peebles/Peebles) chipped in eight. Liggens pulled down a team-high six rebounds for the Quakers while also dishing out a team-high two assists.

Capital put five players in double figure scoring with Tony Ruberg and Geron Tate scoring 12 and Adam Stolly, Mark Denner and Chuck Bihn each adding 11. Tate pulled down six rebounds to lead the Crusaders while also dishing out a game-high six assists.

The next game for the Quakers is on Saturday February 8 when the team plays host to John Carroll University with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
