Cold shooting dooms Quakers in 21-point loss

Quakers hit just 18 of 53 shots in game

(WC Press Release) Wilmington, OH (January 19, 2004) ­ The Wilmington College Quaker menıs basketball team was defeated 70-49 on Monday evening by the Quakers of Earlham College. Earlham wins the Quaker Bowl, a traveling trophy given to the yearly winner of the series, for the fourth consecutive season.

David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) and Deon Short (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy) each score 17 points in the loss.

Wilmington, which never led in the game, fell behind by 11 points in the first eight and a half minutes of the game and was never able to recover from the early deficit. Earlhamıs first half lead grew to as many as 14, as WC went into the locker room trailing by 13 at 35-22.

In the second half WC was able to get the deficit into single digits once, as the visiting Quakers increased the lead to as many as 26 with half a minute left in the game. The Green and White fought back over the last 30 seconds and scored five points to cut the margin of loss to 21 as time expired in the game.

Guy and Short each scored 17 points for WC while Luke Wolfinbarger (Franklin/Franklin) scored five for the host Quakers. Short pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for WC while Gee dished out three assists.

Earlham was led by LaRon Henry who scored 17 points, while Tyler Stewart and Jermaine Crumby each scored a dozen and Markous Jewett added 10.

With the loss WC falls to 1-14 on the season while Earlham improves to 7-8.

The next game for the Green and White is on Tuesday, January 21 when the team travels North to Bexley, Ohio to face off against the Crusaders of Capital University with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
