Quakers fall victim to hot shooting in 103-64 loss

David Guy scores team-high 16 points in loss

(WC Press Release) Alliance, OH (January 10, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Quakers fell victim to 64.5 percent shooting in a 39-point, 103-64 loss on Saturday afternoon.

David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) led the way for the Quakers in scoring 16 points while Tyran Thompson (Middleton/Middletown) added 14 for the Green and White.

The Quakers fell behind 8-0 in the first minute and a half, before they scored 11 of the next 16 points to cut the deficit to two, two minutes later. The closest that the Quakers would get would be two points before the Purple Raiders used a 16-2 run at the end of the period to take a 20-point, 51-31 lead.

The Purple Raiders continued their hot streak in the second half, and led by as many as 20 the whole way, as the team cruised to the win.

Guy scored 16 points for the visitors while Thompson added 14 in the losing effort. Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton-Union) scored nine while Mike King (Washington C.H./Miami Trace) in his first career start, chipped in seven. Gee pulled down four rebounds to lead the squad, while Thompson dished out four assists in the loss.

The Purple Raiders put five players in double figure scoring in the game.

With the loss the Quakers fall to 1-11 on the season and 1-5 in the OAC while Mount Union improves to 9-4 and 4-2 in league action.

The next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, January 14, as the team plays host to Otterbein College in Fred Raizk Arena, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
