Quaker men fall to strong shooting Muskingum squad

WILMINGTON, Ohio (January 8, 2003) ­ The Wilmington College Quakers were defeated 72-53 by a strong shooting Muskingum College squad. The Quakers led by two at halftime before the visitors from New Concord hit 14-of-23 second half shots, out-scoring the Quakers by 21 in the period.

Wilmington (3-9, 1-4 OAC) scored first in the game, and led by five just two minutes into the contest before the Muskies scored five straight to tie the game at eight. The Green and White then scored 10 straight to lead 18-8 before Muskingum went on a 9-0 run to bring the score to within one. The rest of the half the two teams battled back and forth with neither opening more than a three point lead, with the Quakers holding on to a two-point, 27-25 lead at the break.

Muskingum (7-5, 3-2 OAC) used a 17-0 run in the middle of the second half to give the visitors a double-digit lead, one that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest.

The Quakers were led by Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott) who scored 18 points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Adam Weber (Peebles/Peebles) scored nine points while Dave Hudson (Bucyrus/Col. Crawford) and David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) chipped in with six. Liggens and Josh Rohrbacher (Columbus/Beechcroft) each gave out a team-high two assists on the game.

Muskingum was led by Justin Clifford who scored 26 points on 7-of-14 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. Kent Keitch and Jason Trout each chipped in with 12 points in the victory. Clifford pulled down a team-leading four rebounds on the contest while four Muskies recorded two assists.

The next game for the Green and White is set for Saturay, January 11, when the team plays host to Mount Union College with tip-off set for 3:00 p .m.
