Quakers fall to 19th ranked Maryville 74-47

Stephen Gee and Tyran Thompson each score 10 points in loss

(WC Press Release) Maryville, TN (January 3, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Quakers fell to 19th ranked (d3hoops.com) Maryville College on Saturday by a 74-47 score.

The Quakers were led by Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton-Union) and Tyran Thompson (Middletown/Middletown) who each scored 10 points in the loss.

The Quakers fell behind on a pair of three point baskets by the hosts, before the Green and White clawed back and tied the game at eight five minutes into play. The game remained within single digits, as WC trailed by just three with 4:53 to play in the half before the hosts rattled of an 11-0 run, and the lead didn't get to within single digits the rest of the way.

Maryville started the second half the way the ended the first, as they opened play after halftime with a 14-0 run, improving their lead to 28 points with 14 minutes to play, and cruised the rest of the way in the 27-point win.

Gee and Thompson led the way with 10 points while David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) scored eight and Darrick Barga (Ansonia/Ansonia) added five. Guy pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds in the loss while Luke Wolfinbarger (Franklin/Franklin) dished out two assists.

Maryville was led by Sidney Ellis who scored 16 points while Walden Buttram scored 11 and pulled down a dozen rebounds.

With the loss the Quakers fall to 1-9 on the season, while Maryville improves their record to 8-3.

The next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, January 7 when the team travels to New Concord, Ohio to face off against the Muskies of Muskingum College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
