Wellington named Co-OAC Pitcher of the Week

WILMINGTON (April 28, 2003) -- Wilmington College sophomore starting pitcher Derek Wellington (Chillicothe/Chillicothe) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 20th through the 27th.

During the week, Wellington pitched 8.1 innings of work and did not allow a single run or a walk in picking up a victory and his first career save. He also tallied two strikeouts in the games.

Wellington shared the honor with All-American Matt DeSalvo of Marietta College who allowed one earned run in 12 innings of work. DeSalvo went 2-0 on the week with a 0.75 earned run average and 18 strikeouts.

The Quakers have a current record of 22-12-1 and are vying for an OAC Tournament spot.

The next game for the squad is Tuesday, April 29 when the team plays host to the Crusaders of Capital University, with the first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
