Team falls to 14-11 on the season

(WC Press Release) WILMINGTON, Ohio (April 24, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Quakers dropped both games of a double header against Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.

In the first game, the Purple Raiders wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, as Mount Union scored three runs in the first, before scoring one run in the next two innings and adding two more in the fourth and another in the fifth, giving the visitors the 8-0 lead.

The Quakers answered back in the bottom of the fifth, when Jimmy Wolverton (London/Madison Plains) hit an RBI groundout, scoring Mike Kroeger (Cincinnati/Elder) on the play. The run in the fifth was the last run of the game, as the Purple Raiders cruised to the seven-run win.

In the first-game loss, the Quakers had five people get a hit in the game, as Burt Cox (Fairborn/Fairborn) picked up just his second loss of the season, dropping his record to 5-2.

In the second game, the Purple Raiders once again took out to a quick lead, this time 2-0 before the Quakers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, tying the game at two. The Purple Raiders rallied, scoring four runs in the top of the fourth, giving the game all of its scoring in the contest, as Mount Union left Tewksbury-Delaney Field with a four-run victory.

Ben Buehner (Germantown/Valley View) was 2-for-3 in the game while Matt Morris (Hamilton/Hamilton) was 2-for-4. Morris and Chad Abbott (Hillsboro/Hillsboro) each knocked in a run, while Aaron Lawson (Hebron/Lakewood) and Greg Krieger (Bellefontaine/Bellefontaine) each crossed the plate. Clayton Reynolds (Blanchester/Blanchester) picked up the loss, pitching a complete game and allowing four earned runs.

With the pair of losses, the team falls to 14-11 on the season and 2-8 in the OAC while Mount Union improves to 12-16 overall and 6-8 in league play.

The Quakers next take the field tomorrow, as the team plays host to the Saints of Thomas More College starting at 1:00.
