Quakers
lose to Denison
GRANVILLE
(April 16, 2003) -- The Wilmington College Quakers found themselves
down 9-0 after two innings, and were never able to recover, losing
to Denison University 12-6 on Wednesday evening.
Denison
scored seven runs in the first inning before adding two more in
the second, taking a commanding 9-0 lead. The Green and White got
their first runs of the game in the third inning before adding another
run in the fifth and four more in the eighth, but it was not enough,
as the Big Red came out with a 12-6 victory.
Aaron
Lawson (Hebron/Lakewood) led the way for the team batting 2-for-3
while Chad Abbott (Hillsboro/Hillsboro) was 2-for-4 from the dish.
Ben Buehner (Germantown/Valley View) had three RBI's, all from a
three-run home run in the eighth inning, as Lawson crossed home
twice in the game. John Elsen (Fairfield/Fairfield) came on in relief
and pitched six-and-two-thirds of an inning, striking out two and
allowing five earned runs.
The
loss drops the Quakers record to 19-9-1 while Denison improves to
21-9 on the season.
The
next game for the Green and White is set for Saturday, April 19
when the team travels to Alliance to play against conference foe
Mount Union College in a double header, with the first pitch set
for 1:00 p.m.
