Quakers
split fourth straight OAC double header

CONCORD (April 15, 2003) -- The Wilmington College Quakers split
their fourth straight OAC double header, picking up a win and a
loss against Muskingum College on Tuesday. The Quakers won the first
game 9-2 before falling 7-6 in the afternoon finale. In the first
game the Quakers pounded out 18 hits in 35 at bats, and were able
to get nine runs across the plate in the game.
The
first runs of the game came in the second inning when the Green
and White scored six runs in the inning. Muskingum cut into the
lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, but the Quakers added
another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh giving the
team their seven-run victory.
Joe Rosato (Mason/Mason) was 3-for-4 batting in the game while Ben
Buehner (Germantown/Valley View) batted 3-for-5. All nine Quaker
batters that came to the plate in the game got at least one hit,
with six of those getting two or more. Chad Abbott (Hillsboro/Hillsboro)
knocked in a team-leading three runs while Jimmy Wolverton (London/Madison
Plains) and Aaron Lawson (Hebron/Lakewood) each scored twice. Luke
Ogden (Peebles/Peebles) pitched the complete game for the Quakers,
allowing the two earned runs while striking out three and scattering
six hits in the game.
In the second game the Quakers found themselves in a 5-1 hole after
three innings before the Wilmington offense erupted with five runs
in the fourth inning, taking a 6- lead. That lead stood until the
bottom of the sixth inning when Muskingum put a pair of runs across
the plate, giving the hosts the 7-6 win.
Wolverton
was 3-for-3 from the plate in the game while Justin Evans (Franklin/Franklin)
and Tom Harter (Westlake/Westlake) were each 2-for-2 in the contest.
Burt Cox (Fairborn/Fairborn) picked up the loss, dropping his record
to 1-1 on the season.
With
the split the Quakers go to 19-8-1 on the season and 4-4 in the
OAC while Muskingum goes to 16-12 with a 3-5 record in conference
play.
The
next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, April 16, 2003
when the team travels to Granville, Ohio to face off against Denison
University starting at 4:00.
