Quakers drop 8-1 game to Cedarville College

CEDARVILLE (April 11, 2003) -- The Wilmington College Quakers were defeated 8-1 in a non-conference match-up with Cedarville College on Friday.

The Quakers got the first run of the game in the first inning when Chad Abbott (Hillsboro/Hillsboro) tripled in Aaron Lawson (Hebron/Lakewood) to give the visitors the 1-0 lead. The single-run lead would stand until the fourth inning when the Yellow Jackets scratched two runs across, before adding another pair in the fifth. Cedarville would only add on to their lead with a run in the sixth and three more in the eighth, giving them the seven-run victory.

Abbott was 2-for-4 from the plate for the Quakers as the team managed just six hits in the contest. Justin Evans (Franklin/Franklin) and Joe Rosato (Mason/Mason) each batted 1-for-4 while Brent Bird (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) was 1-for-2 from the plate. Dusty Mack (Batavia/Glen Este) picked up his first loss of the season, pitching five innings and allowing four earned runs.

The loss drops the Quakers' record to 16-6-1 on the season while Cedarville improves to 6-15.

The next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, April 12, 2003 when the team hosts John Carroll University in a conference double header starting at 1:00.
