Quakers hold on for three-run win

(WC Press Release) WILMINGTON, Ohio (April 9, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Quakers held on for an 8-5 victory over Cedarville.

The Quakers scored the first six runs of the game, with two in the first, third and fourth innings, opening a 6-0 lead. Cedarville fought back to within one run after a four-run fifth inning, before adding another in the seventh on a solo home run.

The Quakers got a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning when Troy Brege (Hanover, PA/Gettysburg) hit a two-run home run, giving the Quakers the comfortable three-run lead.

Clayton Reynolds (Blanchester/Blanchester) pitched six and a third inning in the game, allowing four runs while striking out five and walking none. Dusty Mack (Batavia/Glen Este) picked up the save, pitching two and two-thirds of an innning, and scattering three hits in that time.

With the win, the Quakers improve to 12-4 on the season, while Cedarville falls to 8-19.

The next game for the Green and White is Saturday, April 10, when the team plays host to the defending OAC Champions, Otterbein College, starting at 1:00 p.m.
