splits with Thomas More
ERLANGER, Ky. (March 31, 2003) The Wilmington College Quakers
split their third consecutive double header, this one to Thomas
More College on Sunday. The Saints came up victorious in the first
one by an 11-1 score before the Quakers came back and defeated the
hosts 5-1 in the afternoon finale.
In
the first game Thomas More jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings,
and led 9-0 after four before the Green and White got their only
run of the game off of a Mike Kroeger (Cincinnati/Elder) solo home
run.
Overall
in the game, the visitors managed to scrape out just five hits with
Kroeger batting 2-for-3 in the game. John Elsen (Fairfield/Fairfield)
picked up the loss, pitching three-and-two-thirds of an inning,
allowing 10 hits and four earned runs.
In the second game the Quakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the
first inning when the team scored on a throwing error by the catcher
and an RBI single by Aaron Lawson (Hebron/Lakewood). In the fourth
inning the Quakers added on another pair of runs and added an insurance
score in the top of the fifth to lead 5-0 before the Saints were
able to squeeze a runner across the plate to avoid the shutout.
Lawson
was 3-for-3 from the plate to go with a pair of RBI's and a run
scored. Justin Evans (Franklin/Franklin) went 2-for-4 with a pair
of runs scored and his first triple of the season. Dusty Mack (Batavia/Glen
Este) picked up his third win of the season in pitching six-and-one-third
innings, allowing the single run while striking out one.
The split brings the Quakers' record to 11-4-1 on the season while
Thomas More goes to 19-3.
The
next game for the Quakers is on Thursday when the team hosts Temple
Baptist College with the first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
