Quakers tie Defiance

WILMINGTON ­ (March 18, 2003) ­ The Wilmington College Quakers jumped out to a 7-3 lead after five innings but were unable to hold on to the lead, as the Defiance Yellow Jackets came back and tied the game at seven, which was where it ended after the 10th inning.

After a Defiance (5-3-1) run in the first inning, the Quakers quickly responded with a single by Tom Harter (Westlake/Westlake) and a home run by Justin Evans (Franklin/Franklin), giving the Green and White a 2-1 lead. After a two-run second inning, Wilmington (7-1-1) scored five runs over the third, fourth and fifth innings to give the hosts the 7-3 lead. The Yellow Jackets proceeded to score two runs in the sixth, and one run in both the seventh and eighth inning to tie the game. The game ended with four and a half scoreless innings before the game was called due to darkness.

Aaron Lawson (Hebron/Lakewood), Chad Abbott (Hillsboro/Hillsboro) and Jimmy Wolverton (London/Madison Plains) each recorded three hits for the Quakers while Evans and Lawson hit home runs in the contest.

The Quakers' next game is on Wednesday, March 19 when they face off against Wittenberg University with the first pitch set for 4:00 p.m.
