Quakers drop first of spring

Team falls 7-5 to Carroll

(WC Press Release) CAPE CORAL, Fla. (March 11, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Quakers dropped their first game of the spring to Carroll College by a 7-5 score.

The Quakers found themselves in a 3-0 hole after the top of the first inning, before rallying for a pair of runs in their half of the inning. Each team scored one run in each of the next two innings before Carroll added some breathing room with another run in the fourth, giving the visitors on the scoreboard a 6-4 lead. Carroll added an insurance run in the sixth before rallying for a run in the seventh, but it was not enough as the team fell 7-5.

Brent Bird (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) was 2-for-2 from the plate, while Ben Buehner (Germantown/Valley View) went 2-for-3 and Jamison George (Mt. Sterling/Miami Trace) 2-for-4.

Mike Burkholder (Republic/Seneca East) picked up the loss for the Quakers, pitching three innings and allowing six runs with just two of those earned.
