Kelch hits pair of home runs for Quakers

Freshman knocks in team-best five runs

(WC Press Release) CAPE CORAL, Fla. (March 11, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Quakers improved to 6-0 on their spring trip with an 11-3 victory over Carroll College.

Tyler Kelch (Hillsboro/Hillsboro) went 4-for-5 from the plate in the win, hitting a pair of home runs and knocking in a season-best five runs in the process.

The Quakers found themselves trailing 1-0 after the first inning before the team rallied for a pair of runs in the third inning, giving them a one-run advantage. After a two-run inning from Carroll in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Quaker bats awoke, and scored two runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and three more in the seventh for the 11-3 win.

Ben Buehner (Germantown/Valley View) and Mike Kroeger (Cincinnati/Elder) each went 3-for-4 from the plate, while Jamison George (Mt. Sterling/Miami Trace) went 2-for-4.

Derek Wellington (Chillicothe/Unioto) pitched the complete game for the Quakers, allowing eight hits and striking out four in seven innings.
