Chad Kroeger hits pair of home runs in win

(WC Press Release) FT. MYERS, Fla. (March 10, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Quakers improved to 5-0 on their spring trip with a 7-6 victory over Hiram College on Tuesday.

Sophomore first baseman Chad Kroeger (Cincinnati/Colerain) hit a pair of home runs for the Quakers, while freshman pitcher Jamison George (Mt. Sterling/Miami Trace) pitched the complete game victory for the Quakers, allowing nine hits and striking out seven.

Hiram's bats erupted in the first inning, as the visitors on the scoreboard put up four runs in the inning. WC scored once in the bottom of the first before Hiram hit back-to-back home runs to start the second inning, giving the team a commanding 6-1 lead with no outs in the second. George buckled down from there, allowing just three hits the rest of the game.

WC scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the third to tie the game at six. After a scoreless inning in the fourth, the Quakers took the lead for good on Kroeger's second home run of the game, giving the Green and White the one-run lead, which they kept for the remainder of the game.

Kroeger was 2-for-2 on the game with three runs scored, while Chad Knittel (Jackson/Jackson) was 2-for-3 and Brent Bird (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) was 2-for-4. Kroeger had a team-high three RBI's while Bird and Knittel had two each.
