(WC Press Release) CAPE CORAL, Fla. (March 9, 2004) -- Wilmington
College junior pitcher John Elsen (Fairfield/Fairfield) pitched
a one-hit shutout for the Quakers, as the team defeated Swarthmore
College 11-0.
Elsen
struck out six batters on the game, and only allowed two baserunners,
off of a single and a hit batsmen, with neither of them reaching
second base.
The
Quakers started strong, scoring three runs in the first inning before
adding five more in the second, giving Elsen more than enough breathing
room in the game. The Quakers tacked on three more runs in the fifth
inning.
Tyler
Kelch (Hillsboro/Hillsboro) was 2-for-3 from the plate for the Quakers,
who went 8-for-28 in the game. Kelch scored three runs to lead the
team while he and Ben Buehner (Germantown/Valley View) each knocked
in three runs in the game.
