Quakers sweep double header of Eureka

(WC Press Release) CAPE CORAL, Fla. (March 7, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Quakers improved to 3-0 on the season with a 19-4 drubbing of Eureka College.

The Quakers pounded out 20 hits in 42 at bats on the game, while scoring 19 runs.

The Quakers, the visitors on the score board, started the game on a tear, scoring four runs in the first inning, getting a lead that they would not give up for the rest of the game. Eureka answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first before the Quakers scored one more in the second. The team's bats went wild in the third inning, as the team scored eight runs, giving the Green and White the 13-2 lead.

Eureka scored two more in the bottom of the third inning before the Quakers put a six-spot up in the sixth inning, giving the game its 19-4 final score.

Jimmy Wolverton (London/Madison Plains) was 4-for-6 in the game, while Jamison George (Mt. Sterling/Miami Trace) was 3-for-6, as 12 different Quakers had hits in the game. Ben Buehner (Germantown/Valley View) was 2-for-4 from the plate with four runs batted in and a home run while Brent Bird (Columbus/Hilliard Darby), Tom Harter (Westlake/Westlake), Wolverton and George each crossed the plate three times.

Ronnie Campbell (Mt. Orab/Lynchburg Clay) pitched four innings, scattering three hits and striking out nine in the win. Dusty Mack (Batavia/Glen Este) came in and pitched two innings of hitless relief for the Quakers, striking out two in the process.
