Quakers improve to 2-0 with win over Eureka

(WC Press Release) CAPE CORAL, Fla. (March 7, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Quakers improved to 2-0 on the season with a 10-0 victory over Eureka College.

Clayton Reynolds (Blanchester/Blanchester) pitched seven innings for the Quakers, striking out four while scattering seven hits and giving up just one run.

The Quaker bats once again came out smoking, as the team scored three runs in the first inning and two more in each of the next two, running their lead to 7-0 after three innings.

In the fourth inning, the Quakers were held scoreless for an inning for the first time all spring, ending a streak of 10 consecutive innings with a run scored. Eureka came back with a run in the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 7-1 before the Green and White scored two and one runs in the fifth and sixth innings respectively to come away with the 10-1 win.

Ben Butler (Dayton/Carroll) went 2-for-3 for the Quakers while Jimmy Wolverton (London/Madison Plains) went 2-for-4 and Tyler Kelch (Hillsboro/Hillsboro) went 2-for-5. Ben Buehner (Germantown/Valley View) went 1-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in.
