TWINSBURG — Wilmington College junior shortstop Greg Krieger (Bellefontaine) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter-of-the-Week.

Krieger went 6-for-11, hit two homers, drove in eight runs and scored six times as the Quakers went 2-1 last week with wins over Earlham and John Carroll.

Krieger is the first Quaker to win OAC Hitter-of-the-Week honors since shortstop Justin Evans was tabbed for the award in April 2002. Evans went on to lead the conference in hitting that season. Krieger currently leads the OAC with a .470 batting average.

"Greg is a dedicated hitter. He is one of those guys who works hard, even when no one's around," WC head coach Tony Haley said. "He's always wanting someone to throw to him in the batting cage. He works a lot on his own and it pays off in the game. He started the season off hitting eighth in our lineup, but about seven or eight games ago I said we needed somebody in the three-hole that's going to hit it. Greg can put the ball in play. He feels like there's no one that throws hard enough to throw it by him, and when they throw that off-speed stuff, he lines it to right field."
