BOX SCORE

WILMINGTON, Ohio The Wilmington College Quakers dropped a non-conference game to Mt. St. Joseph on Wednesday by a score of 10-9 in 10 innings.

The Quakers got on the board first in the game with four runs in the first inning off of Justin Evans (Franklin/Franklin) RBI single, an Al Ledford (Blanchester/Blanchester) two run single and a Joe Rosato (Mason/Mason) sacrifice fly. The Lions of Mt. St. Joseph tied the game up in their half of the second inning, before the Quakers rallied with three more runs in the bottom of the second inning off of an Aaron Lawson (Hebron/Lakewood) three-run home run.

The Lions cut the lead to one in the fourth inning with two runs, and then took a two run lead in the fifth inning, as the visitors from Cincinnati put a three spot on the board. The Quakers rallied back again in the seventh inning, scoring a run when Jerod Theobald (Cleves/LaSalle) knocked in Ledford with a RBI single, cutting the deficit to one. The Quakers evened the score in their half of the ninth inning when Lawson doubled down the left field line, Ledford then advanced Everett Gibson (Cincinnati/Northwest), who was pinch running for Lawson, to third with a base hit before Theobald tied the game with a long sacrifice fly into left field. The visitors scored in their first at bat of the extra innings, when Mark Sheppard doubled and was then brought around with a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly. The Quakers had a chance in their half of the 10th inning when Brent Bird (Hilliard/Hilliard Darby) doubled and was then advanced to third, but that would be as far as he would go, being stranded 90 feet away.

In the game, the team was led by Josh Martin (Circleville/Circleville) who batted three-for-five with two runs scored. Aaron Lawson was two-for-five from the plate with three RBI's as Ledford hit two-for-four with two runs and two RBI's. John Elsen (Fairfield/Fairfield) picked up the loss for the Green and White, pitching four and one third innings, allowing just one and one hit on the game.

The loss drops the Quakers record to 15-16 on the season. The next game for the Green and White is set for Saturday, April 27 as the team plays host to Denison University in a non-conference game starting at 1:00.
