WILMINGTON, Ohio The Wilmington
College Quakers took both ends of a double
header on Tuesday against Capital by scores
of 10-2 and 9-4.
In the first game, the visiting
Crusaders scored two runs in the top of
the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. The
Quakers rallied back in their half of
the third to score three runs and take
a lead they would not relinquish. The
Quakers got their runs off of an Al
Ledford (Blanchester/Blanchester)
single, and a Kyle Neff (Germantown/Valley
View) two-run double. After a 1-2-3
inning by Capital, the Green and White
scored another three runs in the fourth
inning with a Josh Martin (Circleville/Circleville)
sacrifice fly, a Ledford triple and a
Joe Rosato (Mason/Mason) single.
In the fifth inning the hosts scored four
more runs to give them their total of
10 in the game, highlighted by Ledford's
third RBI of the game.
Justin Evans (Franklin/Franklin)
batted four-for-five in the game, to go
along with two runs scored. Rosato and
Tim Hunt (Hillsboro/Whiteoak) batted
three-for-four each as Ledford and Brent
Bird (Hilliard/Hilliard Darby) scored
two runs apiece. Ledford had a team high
three RBI's as Martin, Rosato and Neff
each knocked in two on the game. Derrick
Wellington (Chillicothe/Unioto) pitched
6.2 innings, allowing just five hits and
two earned runs while striking out seven
in picking up his fourth win of the year.
In the afternoon finale,
the Quakers got on the board in a hurry
as they scored three runs in the bottom
of the first inning. The runs came from
an Aaron Lawson (Hebron/Lakewood)
sacrifice fly, a Rosato single and a Jess
Shepherd (Lexington, KY/Lexington Catholic)
single. In the second inning, the Quakers
scored another three runs with a Justin
Evans single that scored one and another
on an overthrow on the same play the team's
second run came across the plate to go
along with Lawson's second sacrifice fly
of the game. Capital would cut the Green
and White lead to five in the top of the
fourth inning with a run before the Quakers
put their final runs on the board with
a three-spot in the fourth inning. Capital
closed ground in their half of the seventh
inning, but the three runs that the visitors
from Bexley mustered was not enough as
the Green and White came away with a 9-4
victory.
Evans continued his hot
hitting on the day, going three-for-four
with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Martin hit three-for-four with three runs
scored as Hunt batted a perfect two-for-two.
Luke Ogden (Peebles/Peebles) pitched
the complete game for his third victory
of the season, allowing just eight hits
while striking out nine in the process.
With the wins, the Quakers
get back to an even 15-15 on the season
and 5-9 in OAC play. The next game for
the team is Wednesday, April 24 as Wilmington
takes on the Mount St. Joseph Tigers for
one game with first pitch set for 3:30
p.m.
