In August 2007 Charlotte's first book, Time Travels: 200 Years of Highland County History told through diaries, photos, letters and stories, was released by Chatfield Publishing Company.
The book covers the history of how Highland County, Ohio changed from a "howling wilderness into a thriving modern day community." Individual communities reflect the nation they represent like a mirror. While the book's focus is on local history, the information is a valuable source for an example of the nation's development, says Pack.
Pack believes, a common complaint about reading and studying history is that the information is dry and boring. Time Travels focuses on photos, interviews, letters, personal stories, and remembrances of a variety of people, not on dry facts alone. This type of information provides a human connection to history.
In addition to covering the history of Highland County, Charlotte writes in detail about the historic and controversial segregated Lincoln School in Hillsboro, Ohio. In 1954, a lawsuit was filed against the Hillsboro City Board of Education by a group of African American mothers and their children with support from the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People. The lawsuit, Clemons verses the Hillsboro Board of Education, was the first northern lawsuit after the historic U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown verses the Board of Education. Through the Court's decision the Brown case abolished segregation based on race in America. The Lincoln School story reflects the pursuit of justice and equality in our society through means of non-violent resistance and civil disobedience and provides a hopeful role model for how individuals in society can effect change through the faith to follow their convictions and the courage to stand.
