College Establishes Academic Minor in Sustainability

Wilmington College has established a new minor, Sustainability, that will officially debut in fall 2013. It features an interdisciplinary curriculum with 12 hours in agriculture courses and a dozen hours of electives, from across the academic spectrum, designed to dovetail with a student’s career interests.

White Stakes Planted to Illustrate Food Insecurity in Clinton County

The word “hunger” conjures images of impoverished children in Africa’s Sudan or Rwanda, but persons in Clinton County are too often going to bed with empty stomachs. In conjunction with Wilmington College’s third annual Food Symposium March 20, a group of 27 students, faculty and staff placed 13,000 white garden stakes in the campus mall Thursday afternoon.

A group of Wilmington College students experienced symptoms ranging from feeling disoriented, anxious and irritable to having actual chest discomfort while engaged in a class experiment. The exercise was not any of the following: spending a night in jail, being deprived of sleep or food, or being forcibly held against their will. Rather, they were separated from their cellphones for 24 hours.
