It is a work program that allows Wilmington College students to work at the ABX Air sort center and earn an hourly wage while at the same time earning scholarship money. ABX Air is a cargo airline with a fleet of 92 in-service aircraft that operates out of Wilmington and 17 hubs throughout the United States. ABX became an independent public company in 2003 as a result of the separation from its former parent company, Airborne, Inc., which was acquired by DHL Worldwide Express. In addition to providing airlift capacity and sort center staffing to DHL Express, ABX provides charter and maintenance services to a diverse group of customers. With over 8,000 employees, ABX is the largest employer in a several-county area in southwestern Ohio.
Only Wilmington College students who are 18 years old and full-time enrolled students are eligible. During the summer semester you do not need to be enrolled in any courses as long as you are enrolled full time for the following fall semester. You do not have to be a federal work study eligible student to participate in this program.
You will be lifting packages that weigh on the average 35 lbs. but may weigh more. You will be sorting packages of various weights and sizes utilizing a moving conveyor system. You may also be loading packages onto skids to be sent out on trucks. The work environment is a non-climate controlled warehouse which is subject to varying weather conditions and may be very hot or cold.
You will earn $10.00 per hour which will be paid to you on a biweekly basis. The pay period ends on Sundays.
Your hourly wage will remain at $10.00 per hour unless you are eligible for overtime. If during the summer you work more than 40 hours per week, the rate of pay is $15.00 per hour.
You will earn $2.00 in scholarship for each hour you work provided you meet the minimum hour and semester requirements. This is in addition to the $10.00 hourly rate you earn. The scholarship money will be paid directly to Wilmington College in your name each semester you earn it.
You must work at least 10 hours per week during fall semester 2007. You must work 10 weeks out of 19 weeks between August 20, 2007 and December 30, 2007 to meet the fall semester scholarship eligibility requirement.

If you are enrolled in the program, you can work during those time periods but you are not required to work. If you do work during these time periods you will be paid the $10.00 per hour rate. Those additional hours will be counted towards your scholarship if they are worked during the eligibility period. Housing arrangements can be made for resident students, however, restrictions may apply.
It will be flexible in that you will be able to choose which shifts and days you will work from the ones offered. However, once your schedule is set for the semester it will remain the same. Exceptions to your schedule must be pre-approved by your ABX Air supervisor.
ABX Air will do a background check which will include checking your references, criminal background check (you must disclose convictions of misdemeanors and felonies) and a drug screen.
