MLK Day!
January 17, 2012

Yesterday, I participated in the Martin Luther King Day of Service, hosted by Wilmington College and taking place at various locations in Wilmington. I was one of the site leaders, but the locations and teams were kept a secret until the morning of the event, so it was more in “challenge” format. My team went to Sugartree Ministries, the local food pantry/coffee shop/concert venue to help do some painting, caulking, and other miscellaneous needs. You may know of Sugartree Ministries through Rachel Ray or Glenn Beck, but there is so much more to this great organization than what was displayed through the media (yes, Wilmington, Ohio has been on national TV several times). My group finished up a little early, so we then went to the Clinton County homeless shelter to help out another group, who was organizing their building that housed all of their donations. The room looked completely different when we were done with it! Over all, the day was a great “day on”, since we obviously did not need another day off. And to top it off, Chipotle donated food for all of us!
As I begin this next week, I realize that I am going to be very busy, but am thankful that I got ahead as much as I could this weekend to help ease the homework and study load. Hopefully this leaves me some time to begin my research topic, ACL patellar tendon grafts. I’m sure I’ll be able to tell you all about it in future entrys!

Reflection on the past month

Another Halloween Photo
Contributed by Brad Fuller
The month of October has flown by, and it may have been the busiest month I can remember. However, tomorrow will bring a new month and time for a fresh start. Halloween weekend was great for me to go home for a while and just relax. Even though my house is about ten minutes from campus, I rarely have time to go home; I think it was the third time I’ve been home since school started. This week will be much more relaxed than last week for me, and I will be playing in our table tennis tournament on campus tomorrow evening without worrying about the homework I should be doing!
Today also marked the start of new athletic training rotations. This month, I am back on campus with the indoor track team, who I will be with until winter break. Which reminds me, winter break is in sight! Over break, I’ll be going to Blanchester High School (where I did my Friday night football rotation) and working a big wrestling tournament simply for the experience. It will be a great learning experience for me because I have never even been to a wrestling meet. If November goes as fast as October did, break will be here before I know it.

Homecoming weekend

This past weekend was Homecoming Weekend at Wilmington College. Friday night we had a hypnotist come and put on a show at the TOP. The TOP is the name of the cafeteria at Wilmington College. It is located on top of the Pyle Center, which is the second floor. Saturday was the big day of the weekend! In the morning we had Greek (frats & sororities) bed races where the Greeks race beds and compete against each other! After that we had the judging of the homecoming banners and then the football game at two o'clock. Unfortunately our Quakers did not win, But it still fun to see the homecoming king and queen at halftime! Later on that night there was a homecoming dance in the McCoy building, next to the Watson Library, that was put on by APB which is an organization that puts on many events and activities for the students of Wilmington College. After the homecoming dance I went to one of the frat houses, Sigma Zeta house, which most students just shorten down to the Sig house. Finally the weekend had to come to an end. Sunday, I went home to visit and hang out with my family, get some laundry done and catch up on some homework. I had a great homecoming weekend. Stay tuned and keep updated with mine and other student bloggers posts to see what happening at Wilmington College.

Midweek break

Today was such a great little break in the week! It felt like I had been
so busy, but yesterday I only had two classes, human nutrition and
racquetball. After I was all done with classes I got lunch and then took
a two hour nap! Now I'm looking into buying another camera not that I am
in full swing in my Graphic Design major. Photography is one of my true
loves and the fact they have a Graphic Design major at Wilmington was
one of the reason I came here. I have two cameras, one is a film camera
that you have to check the lighting, wind, film and then focus it by
hand before taking the picture. I also have a small digital one as well.
The camera I'm interested in now is a bigger digital with different
lenses, but that's a lot of money. I am going to need to work more and
save some additional money. I waitress on the weekends, in Cincinnati
near my home, and this weekend I will be working in the morning on
Saturday. Thankfully I won't miss the homecoming activities. Homecoming
is a big deal around here.
On campus there is always something to do. Tonight there is a women's
soccer game at 7pm. They play Waynesburg. If I finish up with a little
more of my homework, I might make an appearance at the game to cheer on
some Lady Quakers!
Keep coming back for updates from myself and my fellow student bloggers!
Homecoming is coming up this weekend along with lots of events in the
town in Wilmington.
