As a college student I am often being told that now is my time to leave a mark on the world. It is one of those speeches that I hear all the time from my professors, parents, and pretty much any person who is older and wiser that I am.
I realized that I may be hearing these speeches all the time because it is extremely important. For the first time I thought about what those wise words would look like if I put them to use. I’m not much of a protestor, and I’m not even one to actively speak out against something, but I’ve been thinking lately. What is the worst that can happen if just once I spoke up?
This crazy notion of speaking up reminded me of something that I recently read:
“So early in my life, I had learned that if you want something, you had better make some noise.” Malcolm X
Although I don’t know at the moment how I should be changing the world, or what a cause I am passionate about will look like for me, I am open to whatever comes my way.
I am going to leave you all with something that I read from a Taylor Swift lyric booklet.
“If you know how you feel, and you so clearly know what you need to say, you’ll know it. I don’t think you should wait. I think you should speak now.” Taylor Swift
With that I have concluded that there is no time to sit back and wait to be told what can and can’t be done. We need to stand up, stand out, and speak now.
