Jen’s Deli
I recently started working at Jen’s Deli. It’s a great little café in Downtown Wilmington that serves hot and cold drinks, hot and cold sandwiches, soups and salads. This is a great place to study, eat lunch, bring your laptop to type a paper or surf the web. Jen’s Deli is connected to Books n’ More, next to Murphy Theater.
Recently, they have been training me how to make lattes, cappuccinos and frappes. My favorite drink that I’m working on is a “dry cappuccino”. That means that the cappuccino will be half foam, compared to the standard cappuccino which is 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 foam. I haven’t quite got the foam to be consistently foamy. The bubbles come out in too many different shapes and sizes. But I hope to froth the foam correctly soon. I’d like to start making them for customers, instead of my caffeine addiction. Other than my cappuccino endeavors, I’ve experimented a little with latte art. It would be cool to make a special design on every customer’s latte. Since I have my own espresso machine I can practice making them outside of work, but I’m still not super skilled yet. The picture to left features a few designs that I’m aspiring to make. J
On the other hand, if you aren’t into frappes, lattes and caffeine - do not fear! Jen’s Deli also offers delicious milkshakes, smoothies and Italian sodas made specially to order! From blackberry to amaretto, from orange dream to pumpkin spice – there really is something for everyone. I would be glad to make one of Jen’s signature coffees, sodas, or shakes for whoever comes to study, chat, eat lunch or browse the bookstore.
