Peanut butter to the max
Contributed by Maria Larson
I committed to Lent this year, for the first time ever. I gave up sweets (candy, desserts, cookies, pastries etc.) and also peanut butter. Many would say that peanut butter is not a “sweet” and that is something I have heard a lot throughout this Lent, but to me it is. That is why I gave it up – to see how I would do without it! I tend to overeat both sweets and peanut butter whenever it comes my way, and this has been an attempt for me to stop that behavior.
Giving up these things for Lent has actually not been that hard! I think it has helped that I was committed, and really wanted to do this. I have honestly not missed the sweets at all. Of course it has been hard when someone else around me has been eating something like that, but I have gotten over it and been fine for the most part.
However, the peanut butter has been harder to stay away from! I have definitely missed it. It is funny to me because I never used to eat it before I moved here to the States! It is just not something that we eat at home, so I found my love for it when I came here. I have definitely missed it during these 40 days, and I will from now on enjoy it much more when I get a chance to eat it. Actually, I think peanut butter will be the only thing I pick up again after this Lent. Since it hasn’t been that hard to stay away from other sweets, I might as well continue to not eat it. I think it will be good for me too.
