Wilmington College's athletic training education program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
In fact, WC was found to be in compliance in every area examined by a site visit team in 1999 when the first comprehensive review of the program was conducted. It is very rare for programs seeking initial accreditation to be in compliance with every standard and guideline, however, Wilmington met all Standards and Guidelines the first time. In 2005 our program was re-evaluated for continuing accreditation and received the maximum accredtation period possible, seven years. Wilmingtons athletic training program is fully accredted until 2012, at that time the program will undergo another comprehensive review for continuing accredtation.
Students wanting to become Cetrified Athletic Trainers (ATCs), must graduate from an accredted athletic training education program. Graduates will be eligible to take the NATA-BOC certification exam. This exam must be passed to become an ATC. The success rate of Wilmington College graduates on the NATA-BOC certification exam, has consistantly surpassed the national average, for passing the test on the first attempt. In 1997, one of our graduates and now current faculty, Linda Tecklenburg, scored the highest in the nation on the exam.
Athletic Training is an exciting and fast-paced allied medical profession.
As an integral member of the athletic healthcare team, the Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) is educated in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries and illnesses sustained by physically active people. To become a Certified Athletic Trainer one must first graduate from an accredited Athletic Training education program like Wilmington's. Upon graduation students must pass the NATA-BOC (National Athletic Trainer's Assocaitions Board of Certifiaction) exam to become certified.
Wilmington College has been extremely successful in preparing students for certification. Over 200 Wilmington graduates are now Certified Athletic Trainers practicing in a variety of employment settings. Our success rate on the NATA-BOC certification exam consistantly surpasses the national average.
